When HD8 Life visited St. Augustine's Charity Shop

Updated: Jun 13

We had some outgrown Scissett Middle School uniform to give to a good home, so we popped into St Augustines Charity Shop on Wakefield Road in Scissett, Huddersfield, to donate it as we knew they had a healthy stash of local school uniform items for sale.

Whilst there, we had the most lovely chat to Julie, the volunteer who runs the shop along with a small team of others who give up their time on a regular basis to help out. It was eye-opening to hear about the ups and downs of running an independent charity shop in the heart of Scissett, with all shop proceeds going to fund the work of St. Augustine's Church just across the road.

We'll be honest, we'd never been into the shop before and we were pretty astounded by a couple of things: 1) how big it is and 2) how many fabulously priced items are available!

From dresses to books, belts to crockery, bikes to jigsaw puzzles and LOADS in between, it is an absolute treasure trove.

But, it's not just that. It's not just the bargains you can pick up. It's more. It's a place for people to call in for a chat, to feel connected to their community and to give back by donating or buying (or both).

Keep doing what you're doing, Julie and team, and thank you for keeping this fab community asset running.

You can find the charity shop at 151 Wakefield Rd, Scissett, Huddersfield HD8 9HR.
